What a “mean” disease Multiple Sclerosis is! For my wife Bonnie, it has been a 30-year journey, which has challenged all the physical, mental and emotional strength she can muster, and more. I'm not sure that I could have coped with such an unpredictable disability that robs you of those everyday activities and life's basics that most of us take for granted. Her story is like the stories of many friends and family members we all know. Her courage to fight through this disease, raise a wonderful family, and to continue to the have the patience and spirit of a saint make her my hero.
As I have made this “journey” with Bonnie and become more knowledgeable about Multiple Sclerosis and its affects on the lives of thousands of individuals in the Greater Cincinnati regional area, I too am a changed person. I have a different outlook on life than I probably would have had if MS had not become an everyday part of our family. I have met a number of individuals who have overcome some of the most devastating symptoms of any disease and who have experienced the loss of employment, medical insurance coverage, their ability to walk or drive or to live in their home for which they have worked their entire life. Multiple Sclerosis also carries with it another tragic symptom; one of the highest divorce rates (75-80%) of any chronic illness. So it easy to understand the many challenges individuals and their families face when given the diagnosis of MS.
KICK MS continues to be a important part of coping with this disease. Through the continued dedication and commitment of the Chris and Tony Fischer Family, others fighting this “mean” disease benefit from their leadership and fundraising efforts. They do it in Tony's name, but I can tell you that they understand the challenges of all MS patients and families and that is what motivates them year after year to “KICK MS”. Your individual, family and corporate support is critical for them to continue to make a difference in the MS community. Thank you for participating in KICK MS 2007. I hope you find it as rewarding to you as it is heartwarming to MS families to know that you are giving your time, money and commitment to benefit them.
Best of luck!
